What actually moves the price
- Access, not distance. Within the GTA the drive is rarely the cost. Stairs, a long carry, a booked elevator window and nowhere to park are.
- How much packing is left. A half-packed home is the single most common reason a move runs over its estimate.
- The basement and the garage. Both hold more than people estimate, and both are usually left out when describing a move over the phone.
- The date. Month end, the first of the month and the last weekend of June are the busiest windows in the GTA.
- Specialty items. A piano, a safe or a slate pool table changes the crew and the equipment, not just the time.

Are movers in Toronto charged hourly or a flat rate?
Local GTA moves are most commonly quoted hourly by crew size, with the truck and equipment included. Long-distance moves are usually quoted on volume and distance instead. Whichever you are offered, ask for it in writing and ask what happens if the job runs longer than estimated — that single question separates a real quote from a hook.
Why is the range so wide?
Because two three-bedroom homes can be an entirely different job. One has a driveway, an empty basement and everything packed. The other has a shared lane, a full garage and a kitchen that has not been touched. That is why photos get you a tighter number than any calculator can.
Is it cheaper to move mid-week?
