What is actually different about moving in Toronto
You may need a street occupation permit
On many downtown and older residential streets there is nowhere legal to put a moving truck. The City of Toronto issues temporary street occupation permits for exactly this. They take lead time. Without one you are risking a ticket, a tow, or a much longer carry.
Elevator windows are the real constraint downtown
In Liberty Village, King West and the waterfront towers, the service elevator is booked in blocks and the block is enforced. If the truck is not staged and ready when the window opens, you lose it. We sequence the load so the elevator runs full on every trip.
Victorian and Edwardian houses have tight turns
Riverdale, the Annex, Leslieville and the Junction have beautiful staircases that sectionals do not fit up. Photograph the staircase and the doorway when you request a quote — it is far cheaper to know in advance than to find out on the day.
Streetcar routes restrict where a truck can stop
On King, Queen, Dundas and College, stopping in the track lane is not an option during restricted hours. The approach gets planned around it.

Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Toronto?
On many residential and downtown streets, yes — the City issues temporary street occupation permits. Apply with lead time; they are not same-day. If your building has a loading dock, book that instead.
How early should I book an elevator?
As soon as your date is firm. Downtown buildings at month end are frequently fully booked two to three weeks out.
Can you move a house in the Annex with no driveway?
Yes — that is a normal Toronto job. It means planning where the truck sits and accepting a longer carry, which is factored into the quote rather than discovered on the day.
